Andreeva A. Reduction of radiation hazard to the industrial area "Sukhachevskoye"

The object of study is to establish patterns of radiation parameters change during the operation of tailing dumps on the industrial site "Suhachivske" of the Production Association of Pridneprovsk Chemical Plant. Thesis aim: to increase safety in the industrial site "Suhachivske" through comprehensive research and development activities aimed at reducing radiation hazard. Survey methods: theoretical and experimental studies using standard methods as well as the ones recommended by the author; mathematical and physical modelling; statistical methods of data processing. Theoretical and practical results: comprehensive studies were conducted on former uranium production which allowed to estimate radiation hazard in the industrial site "Suhachivske" and to introduce measures aimed to reduce it; it was found that the reduction of the water "mirror" in ponds-settlers of tailing dumps led to a lack of project shielding of radiation-active waste; flowchart of deviation from "equilibrium point" in the operation of radiation facilities was developed based on radiation hazard at the industrial site "Suhachivske" which allows predicting radiation hazard at radiation hazardous objects and take necessary measures to bring a secure infrastructure of the region. Scientific novelty: for the first time it patterns of radiation formation on the tailing site "Suhachivske" were discovered - (Sections 1, 2), "Lanthanum faction" that determines radiation hazard to workers in the industrial site "Suhachivske"; patterns of power change of the equivalent dose of y-radiation were determined which allow predicting values of Power of Equivalent Dose (PED) depending on personnel location at the dam; it was established for the first time that the operation of the industrial site "Suhachivske" no radiation hazard in time was detected which is due to the significant transfer of dust at tailing dumps, because of the lack of water shielding of radioactive waste in ponds - ponds tailings; regularities of formation of an effective total dose of ionizing radiation for the main and auxiliary staff on the basis of permissible and reference levels that allowed for the distribution of skilled workers in five groups on the basis of radiation hazards and time spent on industrial site "Suhachivske." Degree of implementation: recommendations to bring industrial site "Suhachivske" to the state of normal operation were implemented in accordance with National Radiation Safety of Ukraine - 97. Sector (area) of application: at enterprises of former uranium production.
