Samojlenko V. Justification of photodynamic therapy in the complex of prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases under using bracket systems

According to the results of clinical and functional studies of periodontal tissues it has been revealed that the use of braces leads to chronic catarrhal gingivitis in 20.0 ± 3.0 % of orthodontic patients, thus hypertrophic gingivitis - in 12.5 ± 2.4 %. In these patients clinical manifestations of gingivitis have accompanied by a long-term decrease in speed characteristics of tissue blood flow in periodontal microvessels (p ? 0.001). Microbiota of gingival pockets under gingivitis in orthodontic patients when using bracket systems has been characterized by presence of periodontal pathogens Fusobacterium spp. and A. Actinomycetem comitans and reduction of normal resident flora. Status of local oral immunity has been described by reduced neutrophil phagocytic function and reduced levels of secretory immunoglobulin A. It has been established that method of Doppler ultrasound helps to predict complications because of periodontal tissues under fixed bracket systems in orthodontic patients. As a result of clinical trials it has been proved that photodynamic therapy in the treatment of gingivitis as a complication of the use of braces results in the complete elimination of inflammation in the gums with no remission for six months.
