Essay

The thesis deals with the problem of early diagnosis and rehabilitation of secondary optic atrophy in patients of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). It has been found that IIH is a disease with prevalence of ophthalmic disorders. For the first time it was shown that the severity of disturbances in visual acuity and visual field correlates with the stage of papilledema. It was established that optic nerve ultrasound (ONUS) is an effective method of papilledema diagnosis which allow to determine the optic papilla bulging in the vitreous humor and optic nerve diameter extension. The new data about optic nerve diameter at secondary optic atrophy were acquired. The systemic and ocular risk factors of secondary optic atrophy in patients with IIH have been identified. The scientific data on the results of surgical treatment of IIH with consideration of ophthalmic examination have been complemented. It was established the diagnostic value of determining the Spontaneous Venous Pulsations (SVP) symptom disappearance at intracranial pressure (ICP) increasing in patients with IIH. It was developed an effective set of rehabilitation treatment, which consists of the application of physical therapy techniques (transcutaneous electrostimulation and magnetic therapy) and vasoactive drug.
