Essay

This dissertation focuses on gender component in the structure and semantics of English idioms. The cognitive and linguocultural approach pursued in the research enabled to reveal sociocultural parameters of the English-speaking community as well as the trends determined by gender roles opposition. With sampling material selection procedure being suggested the corpus of English gender idioms has been compiled. The conclusion is made that the core of the English culture as reflected in the language phraseological system is masculine, while feminine is characterized by the peripheral status.
