Essay

The thesis investigates the Ukrainian and world mass music, general conditions of their occurrence, process of their development in the historical and social contexts. A comparison of the ways of evolution of Ukrainian and world mass musical cultures and the main vectors of their developmen is carried out. The main stages, which corresponds to the certain historic periods with a holistic artistic and aesthetic system are highlighted. The genre system of the Ukrainian mass music is defined by applying some aspects of the theory of genres in musicology and by using the experience of the of mass media and the producer-performing practice, especially in the all-Ukrainian festival of modern song and popular music "Chervona Ruta"; also, the main features of its components are found. Through the analytical methods by foreign researchers Ph. Tegg, A. Krims and K. Adams number of works of Ukrainian mass music, that reflects the genre palette of Ukrainian mass culture and corresponds to the leading trends in the world of mass music are analysed. In these works, the musical structure of particular elements (melodic, harmonic turns, metro-rhythmic characteristics, timbre and instrumental factors, performance methods and sound engeneering and soundproducing features and other), which determines their affiliation to a proper world mass music genre is detached.
