The thesis deals with the consideration of theoretical and applied problems of administrative and legal principles of functioning of local self-government bodies. The stages of formation and development of the legal institute, the constituent parts of local government bodies as forms of organization of local public power are considered. The author's definition of the term «bodies of local self-government» is proposed in the article and its features are outlined.
