Essay

The primary purpose of this study is to determine derivative and linguopragmatic aspects of the abbreviation in modern Turkish language. This thesis examines the theoretical bases of the abbreviation, defines the terms "process of abbreviation" and "abbreviation", specifies the main factors of this type of word formation in language, namely, linguistic (tendency of linguistic economy, aspiration for analyticity, the influence of other languages as a result of language contact) and extralinguistic factors (social development, scientific, technological and social progress, political and economic events, aesthetic tastes of specific period). The main types of Turkish derivation are described.
