Essay

The thesis is devoted to revealing regularities of luminescence for composite system polymer matrix / inorganic core under ionizing radiation. The ratio between the size of nanoparticles (BaF2, SrF2 and LaPO4-Pr) embedded in polystyrene matrix and mean free path length and photoelectron thermalization length are found to be crucial for understanding the processes of energy transfer in polymer composites. Non-radiative excitation energy transfer from small BaF2, SrF2 and LaPO4-Pr nanoparticles (~ 20 nm) to polystyrene by photoelectric effect is established to be more efficient than that for larger nano- and microparticles, where radiative energy transfer is dominant.
