The object of research - the process of controlling the consumption of diesel fuel by shunting diesel locomotives in operation. The research was conducted using mathematical statistics, experiment planning, mathematical modeling. As a result of the research, new scientifically grounded methods of improving the control of diesel fuel consumption in the production process of shunting diesel locomotives have been obtained, the process of automatic measurement and integrated accounting of the amount of fuel in the containers for its storage and use (including the tank locomotive) has been formalized, . The scope of their application is the railway undertakings whose activities involve the storage, transportation and use of diesel fuel
