Essay

The thesis deals with the study of the Ukrainian toccata as a genre, which greatly influenced the development of piano art in Ukraine. It is determined that the specificity of toccata, which embodies the semantics of motion and time, its performing nature have become the basis for the multifaceted genre modification. Taking into account the historical evolution of toccata we offer the following typology of the genre: barocco toccata, romantic toccata, modern toccata, postmodern toccata. All these kinds of toccata include a toccata complex - a sustainable combination of the fast pace, ostinato rhythmic formula, specific sounding and texture (repetitions, martellato, short and long arpeggios and passages, octave and chord technique), which consolidated the semantics of the motion in musical time-space.
