The thesis deals with the complex study of presenting interethnic interaction situations from the perspectives of cognitive linguistics, theory of communication, discourse studies, linguocultural studies as well as ethnolinguistics. The key types of the interethnic interaction situations represented in British and American media sources are distinguished. They are cooperative and conflict ones. The types of cognitive structures reflecting cooperative and conflict interethnic interaction are reconstructured in the course of study. Cooperative as well as conflict situations are characterized by concepts, whereas frame argument, scenario "confrontation" and cultural image schemas characterize conflict situations. Communicative traits of cooperative situation of interethnic interaction are defined. Communicative strategies and tactics belong to the first type, whereas communicative failures and communicative incident - to the second one. Discourse parameters of interethnic interaction situation are defined, including participants of the situation, their social and situational roles, conditions of communication and its mode. Examples of creating or destroying interethnic stereotypes and their impact on interethnic communication are disclosed. Moreover, ethnonyms used for naming participants of communication are distinguished. They are subdivided into official and figurative ones.
