The thesis deals with the lingual-and-semiotic analysis of the "Faustus" symbol actualization in English literary texts during the late 16th - early 21st centuries. Faustiana is a set of literary works that reveal "bargain with the Devil" theme, which means the renunciation of God. Interpretation of symbol in various scientific areas allows to specify the sign apprehension of the symbol nature. Considering the origins of the symbol, its main features and approaches to classification have been discovered.
