Essay

The thesis presents the results of studies to determine the damageability and fracture resistance of ceramics, glass and hard metal under a local load by scratching with chipping. Found the correlations of dependence between the values of the fracture resistance and the critical stress intensity factor for linear elastic ceramics and glass. Developed an analytical approach which is based on the statistical analysis of experimental results on Weibull distribution to a reasonable determine of the guaranteed level of damageability and fracture resistance of brittle materials.
