Brizhan G. Prevention of complications of topical antibiotic therapy in patients with dry eye syndrome

Object of the study: dry eye syndrome. The goal: prevention of complications of local antibiotic therapy in patients with dry eye syndrome by justifying the need for tear replacements on the basis of studying the cytological status of the conjunctival epithelium, the qualitative and quantitative composition of the tear. Methods: ophthalmic, Shirmer test (determination of tear fluid production level), Norn test (determination of the stability of pre-corneal tear film), crystallography of native tears, impression cytology of conjunctival epithelium. The impressionological and cytological criteria of dystrophic changes in the epithelium of the conjunctiva in the "dry eye" syndrome are determined. The scientific knowledge of the influence of local antibiotic therapy on the cytological state of the conjunctival epithelium and the cytoprotective effects of sodium hyaluronate with its combined use during local antibiotic therapy has been expanded. A criterion for noninvasive diagnosis of the degeneration of the epithelium of the conjunctiva of a severe degree based on the crystallographic analysis of tear fluid was established. The results of the work are implemented in the clinical practice of "Vizus", Zaporozhye, KU "City Clinical Hospital No. 3", Zaporizhzhya, KU "City Multiprofile Clinical Hospital No. 9", Zaporozhye.
