The thesis deals with a study of sports-related compound nouns in structural, semantic and pragmatic aspects. The composites are classified by morphological criteria; they are also united in thematic groups. Compound nouns are shown to enter into synonymous, antonymic, hyponymic and part-whole relationships in the sports lexical-semantic field. Connotation components with pragmatic load are singled out. The functions of composites and their significance for the development of coherent sports publications of various genres are distinguished. .
