Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the complex research of the scientific, archival, public, organizational activity and scientific heritage of Volodymyr Mijakovsky (1888 - 1972). Based on the analysis of historiography and a wide range of sources a significant part of which has been introduced to scientific circulation for the first time, there were reproduced the main stages of his life and creative path, followed by the formation and evolution of the worldview and scientific interests of the scientist, the content and the main directions of his scientific, archival and public activity. It was presented the participation of V. Mijakovsky in the work of scientific and archival institutions of the Russian Empire, the Ukraine National Republic and the USRR as well as during the German occupation period. It was also determined his contribution to the development of Ukrainian archival affair abroad, in particular it was described the role of V. Mijakovsky in the founding and functioning of the Museum and Archives of the Ukrainian Free Academy of Arts and Sciences in the U.S. (UVAN).
