This thesis studies the linguistic nature of the perfume proper names using research methodology of cognitive onomastics. The pre-linguistic phase of our work focuses on a fairly new for onomastic studies subject - proprietary units for the designation of perfumes, which refer to the onymic field of pragmatonyms. 2000 English aromatonyms were selected using the representative sampling method from the English printed and electronic media. Also, the collected material was analyzed according to the types of sensory modalities of perfume proper names in accordance with the dominant representative systems, and the study of the structural organization of aromatonyms was carried out taking into account prevailing word-building models.
