Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the religious component in the socio-political conflict in Ukraine from the end of 2013 to 2017, which includes protests on the Maidan, the annexation of the Crimean peninsula and armed conflict in the east of the country. The research is done within the qualitative approach in sociology of religion and reveals the analysis of the manifestations and effects of the religious component as a social subsystem on other social institutions and religious organizations themselves. The author considers the religious component and its manifestations in the public space, appeals to the de-escalation tendencies, and also stops on the possible use or non-engagement of the religious component in order to de-escalate the conflict. The feature of this work is the use of own field research based on multi-disciplinary approach which makes this work unique among other analysis of religious manifestation during last years in Ukraine. The research consists of some practical working outs in so-called religious peacebuilding which are illustrated in practical recommendations, what potentially could make deeper the process of de-escalation of the conflict and do not sharpen it in the future.
