The research focuses on the pragmalinguistic analysis of the Gratitude Speech Act in the English Literary Discourse and Film Discourse. Gratitude has been defined as a speech tactics realizing positive and negative politeness strategies. Within positive politeness strategy, Gratitude realizes cooperation strategy aimed at supporting the harmonious flow of communication and at helping the addresser to reveal his/ her kind attitude to the addressee. Realizing strategies of negative politeness, Gratitude serves a sign of addresser's deference towards the addressee. It is also a means of mitigation in case of refusal. The scope of application - higher school.
