Strelchenko K. Designation Space MYSTERY: Linguocognitive and Linguosemiotic Aspects (a Study of English ХХ-ХХІ Century Fiction)

The thesis studies the designation space MYSTERY from the perspective of semiotics and cognitive linguistics. It establishes the semantic structure of the concept MYSTERY, defines the conceptual space MYSTERY as a synergetic system and analyses the language signs of the corresponding designation space, reflecting the significant characteristics of the respective phenomena and their interpretation by representatives of the English linguoculture. The study models the conceptual space as a frame network, explicating the relations between its components. The linguocognitive premises of MYSTERY's indirect nominations within the respective designation space are reconstructed. The dissertation investigates the functional-semantic and structural peculiarities of the verbalizers of MYSTERY as well as the inventory of strategies and tactics used by the KEEPER OF THE MYSTERY and QUESTOR throughout the unfolding of the scenarios CONCEALING A MYSTERY and SOLVING A MYSTERY, respectively.
