This dissertation is devoted to the study of the discrediting strategy, which is a linguistic and pragmatic characteristic of contemporary American English diplomatic discourse, namely, to speech tactics that contribute to its implementation in the discourse of the US diplomats. The practical significance of the results obtained is that the main provisions and conclusions of the dissertation can be used in courses of theoretical grammar (“Analysis of Discourse”, “Pragmatics of Sentence”), general linguistics (“Language and Speech”, “Language and Communication”), communicative linguistics (“Nature, Components and Forms of Communication”), theory of linguistic communication (“Communicative resources”, “Linguistic Structural Approach to Verbal Code in Communication”, “The Organization of Speech Code in Communication”, “Tactical, Strategic and Speech Act Potential of Verbal Communication”) in English practice classes to develop communication skills and competence of students. The perspective of the further research is to study other strategies of the speaker, tactics of their implementation, gender differences in the diplomatic discourse, as well as other types of discourse in other languages.
