Оbject: acquired myopia. Purpose: to increase efficacy of acquired myopia treatment correcting antioxidant system by thiol-containing drugs on the basis of new scientific data on the peculiarities of changes in antioxidant processes in the blood and tears of patients depending on the degree of myopia. Methods: ophthalmic - distance wisometry, refractometry, determination of absolute reserves of accommodation, axis length of the eye - ultrasound biometry; special methods of research - definition of the thresholds sensitivity of the optic nerve for phosphene, lability for phosphene, state of photopic light sensitivity; biomicroscopy, tonometry; biochemical research - AOS by the activity of enzymes glutathione-S-transferase (GST), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GP) by spectrophotometry and sulfur-containing proteins in blood and tear before and after treatment in the main and control groups; statistical methods. The method of treatment and prophylaxis of myopia, which consists in the use of a thiol-containing drug: one tablet of each type (gastro-dissolving and enteric-soluble) twice a day during meal, during 30 days, course 4 times a year is offered. (Patent of Ukraine for Utility Model No. UA 86082 "A method of myopia treating ") is suggested. For the first time it was established that the potential of an enzymatic antioxidant system in blood is significantly reduced in myopia and depends on the degree of myopia, as proved by the decrease in the activity of GP in myopia of a mild degree by 15,1% and myopia of medium degree - by 33,1%, in myopia of high degree - by 45% relative to emmetropes. For the first time, decreased activity of antioxidant system enzymes in tear fluid of patients with myopia: CAT by 17% and 21,3% at medium and high myopia degrees, and GP - by 20%, 23,7% and 31,8% in myopia of mild, medium and high degree, respectively, in comparison with emetropes. It was first established that the level of restorative potential of the thiol system in myopia depends on its degree. The higher the degree of myopia, the lower the level of antioxidant protection, which is confirmed by the decrease in the concentration of free SH-groups: in blood by 17%, 24%, 28% and in tear by 19,1%, 24,1%, 29,8% at myopia of mild, medium and high degree, respectively. For the first time, it was found that the use of thiol-containing drugs in patients with myopia in creases the level of activity of the AOS enzymes in the blood (GST by 23,7%, CAT by 20,0%, GP by 22,4%) and in tear (GST by 23,9%, CAT by 15,4%, and GP by 24,7%) and restores the potential of the thiol system, as evidenced by an increase in free sulfur-containing proteins in the blood (by 21,6%) and CP (by 14.7%) and increase of bound serum proteins in tear (by 14,3%), and also increases and stabilizes visual functions. The results of the work were introduced into the clinical practice of the binocular vision disorder laboratory, SI «The Filatov institute of eye diseases and tissue therapy NAMS of Ukraine», in the clinical department of the Clinical Hospital No. 11, c.Odessa, in KZ "Krivoy Rog City Clinical Hospital № 8" DOR (ophthalmologic department), Kryvyi Rih city. Scope - medicine, ophthalmology.
