The basic conceptual approaches to coverage of this topic in domestic and foreign scientific literature are elucidated. The historical preconditions that contributed to the establishment of a diaspora in the Russian Federation after 1991 have been analyzed. The author justified the common factors of development of ukrainian diaspora in Russia as an original and independent organization. The main stages of the diaspora formation, which was accompanied, in particular, by the organization of its institutional structures, are presented. In the context of the socio-economic adaptation of ukrainians in Russia, the process of their rooting into economic life and the development of a social niche in the country of residence has been followed. The forms and features of the national-cultural, religious life of the diaspora are covered in Russia, with the example of wedges and other places of compact residence of ukrainians in Russia.
