SAMCHUK V. Philosophical pragmatism of George Herbert Mead (historical and philosophical analysis)

The dissertation explores the foundations of the philosophical pragmatism of George Herbert Mead. Mead’s works in the field of history of philosophy are critically analyzed. А network of the most significant but differentiated philosophical influences on this original interactive version of pragmatism is established through comparison with other versions of classical pragmatism. Significant features of pragmatic philosophical interpretations of the ideas of British empiricism, classical German idealism, philosophy of creative evolution, and biological theory of evolution are given and clarified. Variety of modern approaches to the theoretical heritage of the American pragmatist, including alternative ones, is analyzed. Historical and philosophical argumentation in favor of the relevance of the theoretical and practical aspects of the philosophical pragmatism of G. H. Mead in the context of current democratic processes is presented through comparison of philosophy of education of J. Dewey and G. H. Mead.
