Formulated theoretical and theoretical positions that depict the basic characteristics of the historiography of the activities of public organizations in Galicia in the second half of the ХІХ th and 30th years of the ХХ th century. In the field of research, mainly (exclusively) Ukrainian non-governmental organizations were the researchers, so that foreign-language, primarily Polish, institutions were covered either in the context of interethnic relations, or in order to compare the social development of the first and others. Under these circumstances, the latter's activities were interpreted and evaluated chiefly through the prism of Ukrainian national interests. The above proves the need and the prospect of a special study of the foreign-language, first of all Polish and Jewish, public organizations of the region of that period. Most of the works on the subject under study, which appeared at different stages of the historiographical process, were written from the standpoint of the methodology of positivism and romantic historiography of the end of the XIXth – the first third of the twentieth century, so that public organizations were considered as important factors in preserving the national isolation of the Galician Ukrainian nation that was under different state-political regimes. The accents of the study of public organizations in Galicia in modern historiography are markedly shifted to the interwar period, so there are many gaps in knowledge of their activities in the late XIX – early XX century, and the military revolutionary era of 1914-1919 in this sense remains a solid “lacunae“.
