Thesis for Candidate of Arts degree in specialty 17.00.03 – Music Art. – Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko. – Sumy, 2018. The dissertation is devoted to the study of the string ensemble specifics in its genesis, stylistics and forms of representation. It is the first time in the native music science that this question is raised in its entirety, with due consideration of both general and particular factors and elements that are engaged in the suggested notion of the «violin culture», including its interpretation in the amateur sphere. Organonic and aesthetic-communicative moments are considered and generalized, acting as the fundamental social music-making in this sphere. Representations of the violin style as a tool that was one of the defining factors in the formation of amateur (non-academic) instrumental performance were singled out and systematized. The thesis proposed the original definition of the concepts of «social practice of making music», «amateur violin style», «amateur violin culture», acting as a terminological basis of the analysis of activity of a number of present Ukrainian amateur stringed bowed collectives which are considered through the «East – Center – West». For the first time in the domestic musicological discourse characteristics of features offered repertoire and compositions of amateur collectives that represent the current state of amateur violin music playing in the Ukraine. Highlighted common - the national mental - and regionally-specific features executive style and forms of functioning of some of these groups – the ensemble of violinists «Expromt» and «Crescendo» chamber orchestra (Kharkiv), ensembles of Children and Youth Musical Society «Violino» (Dnіprо), chamber orchestra «Polyphony» (Lvіv). It determined that the ukrainian «amateur violin» incorporates ancient traditions prevailing in all three layers of musical art - folklore, academic and «third». It is for this reason that the violin amateurism does not lose its relevance in the musical life and is one of the essential factors of familiarizing the new generation of Ukrainians with music. Key words: ensembles with the participation of violin in Ukraine in 1990 - 2010, genesis, stylistics, forms of representations, practice of social music, violin performance, violin style, amateur violin culture.
