Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the research of obtaining the titanium carbide tungsten-free hard metals with an iron bond – a material with improved operational properties. The synthesis method of titanium carbide hard metals in two stages was developed and scientifically substantiated, and the management of the processes of the structure and phase formation of powder particles compositions with their high voltage electric discharge synthesis in kerosene was investigated and scientifically substantiated. The influence of the properties of synthesized powder compositions on physical-mechanical characteristics of the received materials was determined. The connection between the properties of the powder charge obtained by high-voltage electric discharge processing and compacted by spark plasma sintering of the titanium carbide hard metals is established. With the increase in the specific energy of processing the powder mixture from 4.5 to 18 MJ/kg in the materials sintered from it decreases the weight loss with abrasive wear from 3.1 to 1.5 g/km and increases the hardness from 82.0 to 84.0 HRA, and the dynamic strength exceeds 1250 MPa and the samples do not collapse at deformation rates from ~ 400 to ~ 800 s–1. Developed tungsten-free titanium carbide hard metals are implemented in the enterprise and in the educational process.
