Essay

The research is the first attempt in the field to analyze, classify and summarize the peculiarities of constructing the poetic identity in Rose Ausländer’s works both at the level of poetic evolution and the micro level of separate texts. Further, to highlight the main aspects of each poem under consideration and determine the most significant qualitative characteristics of particular periods was one of our key objectives. The creative evolution of the poetess and the background against which her authorial identity developed have been successfully analysed on the basis of her biography and historic events of the 20th century. The linguostylistic representation of R. Ausländer’s poetic identity has been studied through the analysis of dominant principles of constructing the poetic identity in different periods of the author’s creative work. The author-specific transformations have been considered, as well as the nature and functions of transitional images occurring in the system of ideological conceptual and expressive means of Rose Ausländer’s poems and short stories. The main principles of modern scientific views on authorial identity have been described. The research of identity in all its manifestations has enabled us to define it as an integral phenomenon, a complex mental activity including different levels of consciousness, both individual and collective, ontogenetic and sociogenetic, ethical and gender-role components. The identity is a so-called connecting link between the subjective experience of a person and their historical, social and cultural environment. Thus, exploring the issue of constructing the poetic identity permits a fundamental structural analysis of the author’s creative work, factoring in his/her biography, and the historical and cultural environment. The issue of identity is closely connected with the issues of the ego, personality, and the limits of the self. The author-specific transformations of the lyrical “self” in transitional images have been investigated, and their functioning in the author’s poems has been analysed. The study of the regularities and peculiarities of the reception of the Bible narrative figurative material in Rose Ausländer’s poems has revealed that it essentially used to demonstrate the tragedy of the Jewish people during the Holocaust. The tragedy depicted with the help of a biblical plot is presented not only in the sociopolitical context but also in the philosophical one. The issue of identity is scrutinised in terms of the perception of transitional motives and images of ancient, folk and literary origin. It facilitates a more profound understanding of the essence, evolution and establishment of the authorial poetic identity. The aforementioned suggests that the outline of the ways of constructing a poetic identity by the author, their identification in Ausländer’s poetry and prose, reveal the literary, historical, biographical and genetic background of the poetess's creative intentions, and help specify the ontological integrity of the author's poetry as well as the meaning of creating an imaginary identity for her as a whole.
