The dissertation is devoted to the research of the functioning of the lamentation genre in composers’ practice in typological, genre and dramaturgical aspects.The basic stages of genre adaptation to professional music are defined.The thesis considers 27 pieces written by Ukrainian and Russian composers within different chronological boundaries, genre and style reference-points.
