Piontkivska O. Psychosocial support to societal activities of elderly people.

The dissertation is devoted to theoretical and empirical definition of aspects of Psychosocial support to societal activities of elderly people. The thesis substantiates the model of social activity of elderly people, which includes four levels of activity: interpersonal; societal, public; civil. It has been established that elderly people can take fundamentally different positions on societal activities – the consumer of social influences and services (societal inactive); and the active subject of social action (societal active). The thesis reveals the content of societal activities of elderly people and elucidates psychosocial factors that influence the level of societal activities of elderly people. It is proved that participating in societal activities is influenced by such psychosocial characteristics: structure of value orientations of the individual, type of orientation, presence of social interests, degree of satisfaction needs, the sense of social support, the level of self-esteem. The leading external psychosocial factor is purposeful social work to support and increase societal activities. The program of psychosocial support of societal activities of elderly people has been developed and tested. It includes work in three directions: directly with elderly people themselves, in the group of personal growth, in groups of mutual support and mutual help, as well as training and retraining of specialists who carry out or may carry out psychosocial support of societal activities of elderly people.
