Essay

In the Ukrainian literary studies, the thesis is the first comprehensive research of the concept of «identity» in the MUR (Artistic Ukrainian Movement [Mystetskyi Ukrainskyi Rukh]) artistic prose, which also proposed a theoretical model for understanding «identity» in literature studies. Personal identity was analyzed through implementation of the correlative chain of identification strategies (identypes) «Parent» - «Child» - «Orphan» and mains ways to overcome identity crisis of MUR’s characters by doubling, splitting, reflection, and «I» among mask. The scale of various manifestations of the national identity has been researched through the adaptation using M. Gibernau’s approach of five major dimensions: territorial, political, cultural, historical and psychological. It was shown that the main accents for MUR were the problems of interchange of the topos of the great Fatherland with the small locus, the indistinguishability of the nation and the state, the identification of historical memory and historical consciousness. The autobiographical narrative was interpreted as a direct way of creating the narrative modus of identity in the artistic prose of the MUR. This work represents the proposal to consider the theoretical and artistic discourse of the MUR as unison components of a united phenomenon.
