Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the comprehension problem of common features of feminity representation in female characters in the novels by Gabriel García Márquez, Salman Rushdie and Mo Yan, which were discovered in the process of revealing concepts feminine, feminist, female in the conflicts of the most representative novels as for the depicted female characters: «Love in Time of Cholera» (El amor en los tiempos del cólera, 1985), «The Moor's Last Sigh» (1995), «Big Breasts and Wide Hips» (丰乳肥臀, 1996). For the first time in Ukrainian literature studies we compare ontologically similar heroines who represent different cultures: Columbian, Indian, Chinese.In the novels that have been analyzed Gabriel García Márquez, Salman Rushdie and Mo Yan create prominent female characters that successfully represent feminine, feminist and female concepts. Though it may seem that the main place in the novels is given to men, in reality, women play the key role. It is the female characters who influence the development of the collisions that are fundamental for the novels’ plot construction. All the three novels were created at the end of XXth century, thus the reflect dramatic changes in the history of Columbia, India and China. The writers include political components into their works, by using female images they recreate special features of their countries establishment. In the dissertation theoretic and methodological matrix of the research were denoted, the specification of definitial characteristics of basic notions nature and socialization, as well as such concepts as female, feminine, feminist was conducted. The analysis of similar and different features of female characters’ representation in the novels by Gabriel García Márquez, Salman Rushdie and Mo Yan allows to determine particularities of feminine qualities display in the conflicts of the plot.The research reveals that the feminine, female, feminist concepts are the key notions for characterization of female images in literature. Feminine concept can be traced through the artistic self-realization of female characters, female concept reveals in a marriage and motherhood, feminist concept is actualized via the active social and political position of women, their passionate desire to defend their rights and interests.The chosen novels by Gabriel García Márquez, Salman Rushdie and Mo Yan contain a number of artistic and symbolic codes that help to fulfill a woman’s nature and achieve her socialization, such as social and historical environment, family connections, interpersonal relationships, motherhood, active part in social life, artistic fulfillment. The narrative models of the three works are aimed at actualization of a special place of a woman in a family and society in general. The writers describe the role of a woman as an artist, creator (feminine concept), a mother (female concept), an active participant of social movements (feminist concept).
