Essay

This thesis is dedicated to the genre transformation processes in Igor Stravinsky’s symphonies. In order to reveal the process of “genre creation” in the symphonies, we have analyzed five works which the author himself called “symphonies”: Symphony in E-flat (1907), Symphonies of Wind Instruments (1920), Symphony of Psalms (1935), Symphony in C (1940), and Symphony in Three Movements (1945). The thesis traces the formation of a supercycle of Stravinsky’s symphonies and suggests to view the composed as a commentator.
