Essay

The dissertation for PhD degree in History, specialty 07.00.06 – historiography, source study and special historical disciplines. – Kherson State University, Kherson, 2018. The dissertation is devoted to the reconstruction of the intellectual biography of the Ukrainian writer Dokiyа Humenna (1904 – 1906). The source base is considered and systematized, the state of scientific development was determined. The main stages of life and literary activity in the context of the events of national and world history are covered. The change of writer’s philosophical position is traced. The analysis Dokiуa Humenna place in the Soviet literary process 1920 – 1930. Characterized by the peculiarities of everyday life and creative activity of the writer in the camps for displaced persons in Europe and the USA. The source base and theoretical and methodological foundations of Dokiyа Humenna’s historical studies are determined. It is determined that the centerpiece of the historian's philosophy of the writer is the echo of the totemic past of the Ukrainian people and the gender issue. The features of the writer’s myth-creativity, her historical views are outlined. The peculiarities of the reproduction of Dokiyа Humenna by the artistic means of ancient history of Ukraine, Soviet and reality of Ukrainian diaspora (during the twentieth century) have been analyzed. The circle of problems of the Ukrainian diaspora of the second half of the twentieth century was revealed in the reception of Dokiyа Humenna. It is determined that the central place in the historiosophy of Dokiya Humenna is the idea of the totem past of the peoples of Europe and Asia. An important issue in the intellectual biographies of the writer is a gender issue. Dokiya Humenna lived a long life, was a direct participant in the literary process and observer of the intellectual environment of the Soviet Ukraine of the 1920s and early 1940s, the Ukrainian Diaspora of Europe and North America in the war and postwar years. The writer had a wide scientific interest, a lot of acquaintances in literary circles and among scholars-humanists. Reproduction of the intellectual biography of Dokiya Humenna provides an opportunity not only to actualize its figure and creative work in contemporary historiography, but also to understand deeper the spiritual, socio-cultural and intellectual dimensions of national history.
