The dissertation is devoted to the investigation of offenses related to traffic accidents. In the historical aspect, the development of criminal legislation was examined and investigated. The current state of scientific investigations of criminal offenses connected with road accidents for the disclosure and investigation of road accidents is revealed. The author analyzes the development of an accident, opinions of leading scientists and regulatory documents that regulate the activities of the entities involved in the investigation of this category of crimes. The own classification of damage caused by an accident is given. The classification of road accidents according to the mechanism of the event is determined and the classification is carried out in relation to this. Classification of road accidents is required in order to apply the methods and techniques of investigating this type of crime, in accordance with the consequences of the incident, for the introduction of investigative versions in order to develop a certain sequence of organization and conduct investigative and operational-search activities.
