Essay

The thesis is the first attempt of a comprehensive analysis of the concept of the Galician literary borderlands in the works of the central cultural and national discourses representatives such as Mikhailo Yatskiv, Joseph Roth and Bruno Schultz. A theoretical approach to the substantiation of the concept “concept” in literary criticism as well as the principle of its differentiation from the concept “artistic image” have been regarded in the research. The major characteristics of the three periods of Galicia image formation in different national literatures have been analyzed and the conditions of its transformation into the concept of literary borderlands, which originated on the basis of texts related to the Galician cultural space, have been determined. The analysis of the artistic method and stylistic techniques which are most often used by the writers while describing the territory of Galicia has become a characteristic feature of the practical consideration of the author’s variants of the literary borderlands. In this way the typological kinship of Yatskiv’s, Roth’s and Schultz’s literary methods has been defined.
