The subject of the research: The Orthodox Church of Cyprus in the last quarter of the XIX - first third of the XX century. The aim of the dissertation: a comprehensive study of the role of the Cyprus Church during the period of British rule and the analysis of its social and political activities. Methods: historical-genetic, periodization method, problem-chronological, prosopographical, comparative, system-functional, analysis, synthesis, description, generalization, classification, typology, historical, logical. Scientific novelty: a hypothesis was put forward about the active social and political activity of The Orthodox Church of Cyprus, which was aimed at the national-political self-identification of the island and contributed to the social and political modernization and desecularization of the Cypriot society; outlined the Cypriot model of relations between the Church and society, where a religious institution has spiritual and political power over the Greek Cypriot community; comprehensively investigated the involvement of the Church of Cyprus in the political life of the Greek Cypriot community. The practical meaning of investigation: materials of the dissertation can be used in the preparation of scientific works, textbooks, programs and special courses on history, religious studies and other disciplines. Field of application: educational process.
