Essay

In the dissertation for the firs time in the national religious studies a holistic analysis of the historical transformations of European models of state-church relations and the experience of their introduction in Ukraine at the beginning of the XXI century was made. On the basis of elaboration of a considerable amount of sources, it has been proved that both the formation of ideas about the secular nature of the state and the formation of varieties of separation and partner models of state-church relations are conditioned by the historical development of European Christian civilization, taking into account the peculiarities of the confessional and political variety of culture of premodern, modern and postmodern. Itis proved that concrete forms of state-church partnership are largely determined by national and confessional traditions. International law protecting freedom of conscience promotes the constitution of the secularnature of the state and the development of the autonomy of church life, but does not become an obstacleto the formation and development of partnerstate-churchrelations, the need for which in Ukraine is determined by the processes of gradual overcoming the consequences of totalitarianism, greater implementation and protection human rights, especially during socio-politicaltrials of military and socio-economic character.
