Kharkova H. Prosodic peculiarities of orders in English shipping and feature film discourse (Instrumental Phonetic Research)

The thesis provides the results of the instrumental and phonetic research into peculiarities of the prosodic arrangement of orders at sea, used in the authentic shipping discourse and in the fictional feature film discourse. The work catalogues the major approaches to the research of the institutional discourse, looks at its genre types, and determines the place of the shipping discourse in the system of institutional discourse genres. The conducted linguistic analysis of the orders at sea enables classifying them by several parameters: topical/situationalfocus and targeting; vocabulary; syntactic structure.
