Dissertation studies environmentalism, as a contemporary political-ideological system, as well as a practice of a postindustrial society. Operationalizing the notion of "environmentalism" allowed to define its role in the framework of political categories. In the process of research it was identified that the backbone of environmentalism, its distinct feature is its characteristic as a system, aimed at finding a way out of an environmental deadlock, saving humanity and nature. It has been clarified, that the elements of environmentalism include instruments of multifaceted (philosophical, economic, legal, futuristic, specifically scientific) justification of the possibility of establishing an environmentally harmonized society. This is the essence of the concepts and theories considered crucial for this historical period, the axial idea of the civilization. Moreover, the dissertation studies essential characteristics of the political constant of environmentalism, as a transnational goal-doctrine of the postindustrial era, capable of ensuring the safety of mankind that is currently on a way to an environmental disaster. It has been determined that environmentalism, currently being the alternative ideology to those dominating (conservatism, liberalism, socialism) the social paradigm is gradually becoming more and more significant and moves into the category of generally recognized ideologies. Evaluating the ideological doctrine of contemporary environmentalism research highlights that it has all the unique specificity inherent in its creators. Contemporary environmentalism is so theoretical that it is capable of solving pressing theoretical issues of the environmental movement, as well as the entire complex of the environmental issues of society. The purpose of the environmental ideology has been assessed. The research paper justifies political institutionalization of environmentalism in contemporary society and the influence of environmentalism values on the state government system of Ukraine. At the same time it is also stated that the ideological doctrine of contemporary environmentalism is not yet quite structurally and logically sound. It lacks consistency, clarity, comprehensive consideration and coordination between the individual elements of this theoretical formation in progress. At the same time, the need for further development of this unconditionally promising approach to the analysis of political processes and institutions of power is clearly identified, as this approach is based on the inclusion of environmental political worldview, mentality and a new way of defining perspectives.
