Essay

Thesis focuses on the study of verbalization of author’s intentions in contemporary American literary text by means of expressive syntax. The formation of a new scientific paradigm has led to intensified attention to the subjective factor in linguistics, the role of a speaker in various communicative acts, in particular the author’s intentional expressive means in the literary text from the standpoint of linguistic functionalism. Theoretical and methodological generalizations of the main approaches to the study of the problem of expressiveness in a communicative-pragmatic way from the standpoint of pronounced anthropocentrism and the realization of the author’s intentions are carried out. Analysis of individual syntactic-stylistic features of author’s literary texts testifies that, firstly, the effect of pragmatic influence of literary text is achieved through the complex interaction of all elements of the system of its figurative means; secondly, the artistic peculiarities of each outstanding masters of verbal communication is created by a combination of various expressive means that form author’s own, individual language system and idiostyle. In this case, the grounds for differentiating author’s styles are the differential attributes of the author’s text, his stylistic components, represented by means and methods of intensification of the text. Some expressive-stylistic means are recurrent in the idiostyle of one or another author and reflect the nature of the author’s preferences in creating a literary text. Key words: anthropocentrism, pragmatics, intention, communicative intention, linguistic personality, expressiveness, expresema, figurative-rhetorical means, modified syntactic structures, author’s style.
