Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the study of cognitive-semantic aspect of the modern British parental discourse (MBPD) and to the elaboration of the cognitive maps of its two types. Parental discourse is viewed as a non-institutional household discourse, which is a segment of a family discourse representing the thinking-and-speech interactions between parents and children in the family. A complex analysis of the multilevel cognitive dimension of MBPD included the following stages: the notional, figurative and axiological layers of the metachtone PARENTHOOD (a discourse forming concept) were analyzed; the verbal means of mental units of conceptual system of MBPD were grouped into domains and the most significant among them were statistically verified in the cooperative and conflict types of MBPD respectively; verification of statistically meaningful concepts in every domain was carried out; relations between autochtons, their quantitative and qualitative characteristics were identified; cognitive maps of the cooperative and conflict types of MBPD were designed. Key words: parental discourse, domain, conceptual system, cognitive map, concept, linguo-cultural concept.
