The work describes the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster – the largest environmental disaster of man-made disaster in the history of mankind, the history of the legal provision of environmental safety in the areas concerned. The emphasis is placed on the need to resolve the division of powers of the State Agency of Ukraine on management of the exclusion zone and local self-government bodies; adoption and implementation of a number of documents of a programmatic nature.
