The work is devoted to the task of reducing losses and improving the quality of voltage in electric grids, by developing methods and means for optimizing of the reactive power flows, based on the Hamilton-Ostrogradsky principle. The mathematical model of optimality criterion for the given problem, methods of optimization of the reactive power сompensation facilities placement in power grids, means of optimal control of compensating installations for such networks is developed. In particular, a new method for estimating the guaranteed efficiency of reactive power compensation in electric networks is proposed. The method of optimization of electric power flows has been developed. For this purpose, the capital and operating costs of the sources of reactive power (SRP) were taken into account in the model of the electric network’s "ideal" mode. The method for taking into account the voltage constraints in electrical networks during optimization of the location of the SRP is improved. Their implementation allows to increase the efficiency of the joint use of SRP in the electric grids of the power supply companies and the active consumers.
