Essay

This thesis offers a review of jazz piano improvisation as a polystylistic phenomenon manifested in compositions of Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea, an outstanding American jazz pianist and composer. For the first time in Ukrainian music studies, this matter has been addressed comprehensively and in a broad context of general, special and particular factors and components constituted on aggregate by the notions proposed in this study, including the original term “performance-improvisation” that not only defines the symbiosis of music creation-performance processes but also adds an interpretational component to it.
