Shchyrytsia D. Creativity of Edgard Varèse: interaction of traditional and creative

The thesis is a study of Edgard Varèse's creativity in the aspect of the interaction of traditional and creative. The work analyzes the historical context of the formation of the composer’s creative method. The application of the concept of “cultural memory” to the study of tradition in music was argued, and the introduction of the concept of “creative” for the study of innovative phenomena was substantiated.In this regard, the musicological approaches to studying the problem of traditional and creative, taking into account the musical context of the twentieth century, are systematized and developed.The patterns of composer's thinking and the typical features of an individual style on the example of his individual works are revealed.The works reveal traditional elements with the help of established methods of musicological analysis and the use of the concept of cultural memory. Formulated creative features of the composer's work, connected with the implementation of his idea of "liberation of sound" and the concept of "spatial music". The specificity of the combination of traditional and creative in the composer`s creative method is determined.
