Essay

The thesis aims to explore linguopragmatic and ethnolinguocultural aspects of the communicative behaviour of businesspeople in English media interviews. For the first time in Germanic studies, the communicative behaviour of businesspeople from various ethnolinguocultures as presented in English interviews is analysed, and the original classification of communicative strategies and tactics, which they use to realize their intentions, is developed; the distinctive and common features of the communicative style and linguistic repertoire of different groups of businesspeople are determined. The interview with a businessperson (business interview) is defined as a specific genre of media business discourse viewed as a completed communicative act between a journalist and a respondent, consisting of questions and answers sequences aimed to obtain information, opinions and judgments of social and economic concern. The study provides a typology of English business interviews, describes the specifics of their compositional structure, and clarifies the role of using verbal and non-verbal means in the interview.
