Essay

The dissertation investigates the reception of multicultural topos of Galicia in the texts of L. von Sacher-Masoch. It is given the characteristics of literary critical reception of his works of arts; it is outlined the author’s role as a mediator between the Western and Eastern Slavic cultural mentality. The textual strategy of L. von Sacher-Masoch as ethnic imagological interpretation is defined. This is a subjective, aesthetic, hyperbolized, mythologized intention to interpret multi-ethnic and multicultural Halychyna. The characters created by the writer are deprived of authentication of «the Other» with the national stereotypes. The ethnic-imagological interpretation of Halychyna creates the author’s variant of the phenomenon of culture, which is textually represented by the figurativeness of rituals, folklore, anthropometry, everyday life, morality and the axiology of ethnic groups.The multicultural intertext of Galicia represented in the writer’s works is analysed. In particular it is outlined the models of «parallel» co-existence of ethnic cultures in the measurement of cultural heterogeneity of Galicia, built on the basis of mythological universality (the law of isomorphism), idyllic and stereotyped patterns. It is investigated the role of literary and folkloric-mythological markers of L. von Sacher-Masoch’s prose, the frequent references to the works of definite writers, art techniques, images, stories, motifs; an appeal to archaic models and ethno-genetic collective memory that makes explicit the ethnoimagological strategy of multicultural interpretation of the image of Galicia. The artistic-spatial cosmology and intertextual-mythological paradigm of L. von Sacher-Masoch’s creativity are characterised. The «myth of Galicia» as the situation of ethno-cultural borderland is traced. It is also illuminated the psychoanalytic discourse of «multiculturalism» of the writer’s prose, the artistic relay of the archetypes of individual and collective unconsciousness, the oneiric projections, etc.
