Essay

Candidate thesis is dedicated to the investigation of the influence of siliceous admixtures of various structures (from amorphous to crystalline) on the physical and mechanical properties of the composite cements recommended for general purposes. It is determined that the typical siliceous admixtures have different structure and origin, and are silicon dioxides: hydrated (amorphous), vitreous and crystalline. It is observed that the strength of the cements with the mixed admixture containing both granulated blast furnace slag and mining waste tailings is higher in comparison with the cements with slag alone. Replacing of 20 wt % of the slag with the heat-treated waste tailings leads to 35% increase of the 7-day strength in comparison to the control binder. At the later age the difference decreases but still strength of the cements with the mining waste tailings is higher than the control one. Key words: siliceous admixtures, thermally activated process, structure, blended cement, hydration, properties
