Essay

The dissertation focuses on the identification of linguocognitive and linguocultural features of the image of a woman in Australian literary texts of the twentieth century. The image of a woman is a reflection of the social type, the idea of the coexistence of man and society, which permeates Australian literary texts and is incorporated into the linguocultural plan of consciousness of the Australian community. The image of a woman in Australian literary texts appears as a cumulative linguocognitive textual construct that is a complex mental structure and is characterized by a distinct individual character. The research is characterized by the integrative approach to the study. It is assumed that the image of woman is investigated from the standpoint of linguocognitive and linguocultural perspectives. The research highlights that the image as a result of the reflection of the outside world in literary texts is an issue that accumulates various signs of phenomena, fragments of the surrounding reality in the full volume of sensory perception, refracted through the prism of artistic consciousness of writers. It has been proved that among the linguocognitive mechanisms of formation of image of woman in Australian literary texts the following types of cognitive operations emerge: narrative mapping (the story reflection in the content of image), substitative (realized via metonymy), and analog-relative (literary comparisons). It has been established that the linguistic and cultural characteristics of image of Australian woman are identified through pre-conceptual analysis. The features of the analysis include determining not only the implicit traits of archetypes, but also determining of ethnoarchetypes and linguocultural units. The features of the image of a woman in Australian literary texts of the twentieth century are determined in the work, the dominant linguocultural specific features of the Australian literary texts of the twentieth century are highlighted, the linguocultural type of a Stoic woman in Australian literary texts is established, the linguocultural features of the image of a woman are defined, the complex methodology for research of image of woman in Australian literary texts is proposed. Keywords: Australian literary texts, image, image of woman, concept, linguocultural type.
